The revenue from royalties and participations on oil production grew by 71% between 2016 and 2017, a positive result after two years of decline in the oil activity in the country. The data comes from the Brazilian Infrastructure Center (CBIE) and are still partial numbers.
With the resumption of activity in the sector, with new auctions held last year, the estimate is that revenue from the exploration of the raw material generated R$ 30.4 billion for the Union, states, and municipalities last year, compared to R$ 17.7 billion in 2016. Royalties are a type of tax charged to oil companies for the right to extract oil in Brazil.
