Growth of São Paulo’s Street Carnival – The Brasilians

Growth of São Paulo’s Street Carnival

The Federation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo (FecomercioSP) estimated that the Carnival in the capital has established itself as an event of economic significance, generating over R$ 400 million.According to the Tourism Council of FecomercioSP, the street carnival in São Paulo, in addition to the traditional samba school parade at Anhembi, brought a new economic dynamic to the city in February. The movement of commerce and services in the city during this period places the carnival among the main events of the city, alongside Formula 1 and the LGBT Pride Parade. Mariana Aldrigui, president of the Tourism Council, contextualizes the attendance of 9 million people, reported by the city hall: “There are nine million people in the sum of all days of Carnival, around 2 million people alternating between the blocks each day, with an average daily spending of R$ 45,” she stated.Source: Press Office of FecomercioSP
