It was in an intimate and joyful atmosphere that the conversation took place between the artists scheduled for the 34th edition of BR Day NY and journalists, at the press conference promoted by Globo on the morning of September 1st, the eve of BR Day NY 2018. Presenter Ana Furtado, singers Matheus & Kauan and Eduarda Brasil, Os Paralamas drummer João Barone, and Dennis, who performed with special guests Toni Garrido and MC Koringa, spoke about the preparations for the party the following day. Globo’s director of special projects, André Dias, and the event’s founder, João de Matos, also participated in the meeting.
Ana Furtado expressed her excitement about presenting BR Day NY for the first time. “I was very happy with the invitation and I can only say that I am very excited to take the stage on 6th Avenue tomorrow,” she declared.
The duo Matheus & Kauan also did not hide their joy at having BR Day NY as their first international performance. Kauan, who had spent some time living in the USA before he started singing with his brother, spoke about the connection he feels with Brazilians living in the country. “I feel like I’m watching a movie in my head. I have lived a bit of this story because I lived here. Returning to the United States is a reason for a lot of emotion,” he said.
Dennis celebrated the arrival of carioca funk in New York: “BR Day NY shows the current Brazil and its mix of rhythms, which I also do in my work: mixing and breaking paradigms,” he commented.
João de Matos emphasized that the party is a gift for the audience, who make BR Day a day more than special in New York, a city that year after year welcomes the event with open arms.
