The federal government transferred R$ 14 million to the Ministry of Defense to support and continue emergency assistance and reception actions for immigrants coming from Venezuela. The measure that authorized the extraordinary credit was published in the Diário Oficial da União (DOU).
In Roraima, 13 shelters currently house more than 5,700 Venezuelans. In recent months, another 4,564 immigrants have been sent, through the interiorization process, to 17 other states in the country. In February, 226 more housed in Boa Vista (RR) were interiorized to eight Brazilian cities.
Operation Welcome
The interiorization is one of the pillars of Operation Welcome. Immigrants who voluntarily adhere to the strategy are registered, documented, and vaccinated. They are then transported to the cities 
participating in the action. Once in the chosen region, they are housed in centers with accommodation and informed about health assistance locations and other regional public services. Venezuelans also receive opportunities to enter the job market.
The states of Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, and Pará are the ones that received the most immigrants through the program – with 850, 768, and 524, respectively.
Unforeseen Expenses
Additional funding allocated for urgent and unforeseen expenses, the extraordinary credit is a resource authorized by provisional measure. Roraima has been facing serious problems due to the large number of Venezuelans entering Brazilian territory through the state in search of social, economic, and humanitarian support.
