NGOs Launch Campaign to Combat the Covid-19 Crisis

Since the pandemic began, a large number of non-governmental organizations have been suffering from a decrease in resources to sustain themselves, and one in five already declare that they are out of funds to continue their activities.

An example of this is the NGO SOS EB KIDS, which serves children with Epidermolysis Bullosa in Brazil and the United States. Seeing donations decrease more and more, the organization decided to hold an art exhibition to raise funds for Brazilian artists in NY.

One of them was the partnership with designer Julia de Lucena to carry out a campaign: Love Response By SOS EB Kids. “The development of my art worked on the pieces was inspired by the theme ‘love response’ of the campaign. I worked with the colors orange, green, and brown, which are characteristic of the organization. And finally, the doodle refers to ‘children’s drawings’ since our main focus is them,” explains the designer.

The founder of the NGO, Christiane Brasileiros, says that the work between the headquarters in Brazil and New York communicates every day via the internet and meets every four months.

“We have the directors of SOS EB Kids USA and the directors of SOS EB Kids Brazil, but almost all decisions are made together. New York has been our fundraising base, but Miami has been emerging strongly in this regard. With our arrival in Brazil, we are developing a fundraising system in the national territory.”

In total, there are 60 recurring volunteers and many more sporadic ones, in addition to five more people involved to take care of all the details.

“Our expectations are high because we are a group of very optimistic people! Besides restoring normalcy in sending health supplies to our children, we want to expand by sending more units of special dressings made of silicone foam. However, the most ambitious goal is to incorporate the 24 children who are on our waiting list into our beneficiary registry. This waiting list breaks our hearts,” the founder confesses.

Christiane Brasileiros adds that for those interested in helping in Brazil or the USA, the NGO accepts not only monetary donations but also health supplies, as they have a “distribution center” for excess supplies from those children who no longer need them. They are also open to loving, dedicated volunteers who want to help.
