The São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra – OSESP will perform four shows in the United States between October 10 and 15, marking its first international tour since the beginning of the pandemic.
The tour will feature four performances in three different locations: on October 10, at Helzberg Hall (Kansas City, Missouri); on October 12, at The Music Center at Strathmore (North Bethesda, Maryland); and on October 14 and 15 at Carnegie Hall in New York – this will be the first time a Brazilian orchestra will be part of the official program of this legendary classical music stage.
Conducted by American Marin Alsop, who has been the Honorary Conductor of OSESP since 2020. Alsop is the first woman to conduct major orchestras in the United States, South America, Austria, and Great Britain.
The concerts will have different programs.
• On October 12 and 15, the audience will experience the “Forest of Villa-Lobos,” a notable tribute to Brazil’s greatest composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959). The grand 70-minute symphony features Villa-Lobos alongside Brazilian and foreign authors influenced by him. The OSESP Choir and soprano Camila Titinger will participate in the performances, accompanied by a unique visual project that celebrates our global heritage, the Amazon Rainforest, curated by Marcello Dantas.
• On October 14, OSESP will feature José Staneck (harmonica) and the OSESP Choir to reinterpret Villa-Lobos’ works. Additionally, part of this program includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s piece Sheherazade. The performance on October 10 in Kansas City will take place without the OSESP Choir.
The concert is supported by the Brazilian International Opera Company (Iboc).
