You can’t stand hearing about Covid-19 anymore. But a flood of new variants seems to be gaining strength globally and raising fears of a new wave of the epidemic during winter in the northern hemisphere.
Statistics show that coronavirus cases in the United States are declining. However, several emerging variants accounted for nearly 1 in 3 new infections in the country last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – CDC.
Some experts believe this convergence means we have entered a new phase in the evolution of the virus, where we will have multiple variants circulating at the same time.
Updated booster vaccines and antiviral medications are expected to continue protecting against severe Covid-19 infections. Therefore, as the cold weather approaches and people spend more time indoors, experts warn of the need to keep vaccinations and boosters up to date.
