Edson Arantes do Nascimento, who became globally known as Pelé, died today (29) at the age of 82 at the Albert Einstein Hospital in the southern zone of São Paulo. According to a medical bulletin, the death was due to multiple organ failure.
“The Israelita Albert Einstein Hospital sadly confirms the passing of Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pelé, today, December 29, 2022, at 3:27 PM, due to multiple organ failure resulting from the progression of colon cancer associated with his previous clinical condition,” reads the released statement. Pelé had been hospitalized since November 29.
Kely Nascimento, Pelé’s daughter, posted a farewell message on social media. “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.” Santos Futebol Clube published an image of a crown with the words “eternal.”
