Mocidade Alegre won, this Tuesday (21), the title of champion of the special group of São Paulo’s Carnival. This is the eleventh title for the association, also known as “The Home of Samba,” making it the second school with the most victories in the history of the São Paulo carnival, behind only Vai-Vai.
Mocidade Alegre told the story of Yasuke, the first black samurai in Japan’s history, at the Anhembi Sambadrome.
The carnival designer Jorge Silveira mixed African elements, with large sculptures and prints in the first part, along with dragons, kimonos, swords, and armor, Asian traditions, in the second part.
Mancha Verde came in second place, and Império de Casa Verde took third place.
The schools Unidos de Vila Maria and Estrela do Terceiro Milênio were relegated to the Access Group of São Paulo’s carnival.
