Sales of Erectile Dysfunction Gel Without Prescription Approved in the U.S.

A groundbreaking gel for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, called Eroxon, has been authorized by the Foods and Drugs Administration (FDA) for over-the-counter sales in the United States, according to the pharmaceutical company Futura Medical, which developed the product.

The Eroxon is already available in Belgium and the United Kingdom. In the latter country, a package of four tubes of Eroxon costs around £24.99, equivalent to about $31.22 in the U.S.

“We do not have specific pricing details yet, as the price will be determined by the partner launching Eroxon in the U.S.,” said the spokesperson for Futura Medical in a press release. “When Eroxon will be available on U.S. pharmacy shelves also depends on that partner,” but some analysts predict that the product could be launched in 2025.

A product leaflet states that the gel comes in a single-dose tube and should be applied to the head of the penis for 15 seconds before sex. The product’s marketing materials claim that it can help users achieve an erection within 10 minutes after application.

The erection lasts long enough for successful sex in about 65% of individuals and naturally decreases over time, according to the Eroxon website.

In the United States, erectile dysfunction affects about 30 million men. It occurs when someone is unable to obtain or maintain a firm enough erection for satisfactory sexual activity.

Many factors can cause or contribute to erectile dysfunction, including diseases such as type 2 diabetes, medications like antidepressants, psychological factors such as anxiety, or behaviors like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, using illegal drugs, or being overweight.
