This Wednesday, the Meta platform (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) has just launched its newest app. Threads is the microblogging bet that promises to shake the foundations of Twitter.
It is no secret that since Elon Musk’s entry into Twitter, the platform has been losing many users. Positioned by Meta as “a separate space for real-time information and public conversations,” Threads arrives with an ambitious proposal. “It will take some time, but I believe a public conversation app with over 1 billion people is necessary,” Mark states in a post. “Twitter had its opportunity, but it failed to deliver.”
The jabs don’t stop there. The brightest minds in today’s tech world have been exchanging barbs through posts for some time. It all started when Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight. That’s right, outside the virtual world, and with none other than Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), as the organizer of this battle between giants.
The app, which arrived at the right time to further spice up this battle, has already gained over 30 million sign-ups in just 24 hours and will use the same structure as Instagram to facilitate the onboarding of new users.
In addition to posts with 500 characters and videos longer than 5 minutes, Threads has no posting limits and restrictions on content visibility, which has been one of the main reasons users have abandoned Twitter. Provocation?
According to information from The Wall Street Journal, a Twitter lawyer sent a letter to Meta raising questions about a possible “misappropriation” of the new app. It was also claimed that Meta had hired Twitter employees with the aim of obtaining trade secrets or intellectual property.
Andy Stone, a spokesperson for Meta, responded on Threads, stating: “No member of the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee – that is simply not true.”
With this new app in play, it doesn’t matter which side you’re on, this entertainment clash is something you won’t want to miss – both online and offline. It seems that the fight will take place in the octagon in Las Vegas, and according to White, the physical combat is approaching, and the main details are already outlined.
