Sinéad O’Connor: “When artists are dead, they are much more valuable than when they are alive” – The Brasilians

Sinéad O’Connor: “When artists are dead, they are much more valuable than when they are alive”

In a 2021 interview with People magazine to promote her memoir “Rememberings,” O’Connor said she explained to her children the importance of protecting her music and finances.

She told them to call the accountant before calling 911 if she were found dead.

“Look, when artists are dead, they are much more valuable than when they are alive,” she told the publication. “Tupac has released many more albums since he died than he ever did while alive, so it’s kind of disgusting what record labels do.”

“That’s why I’ve always instructed my kids from a young age: ‘If your mom drops dead tomorrow, before you call 911, call the accountant and make sure the record labels don’t start releasing my records.’”

The Irish singer died this week after being found unconscious in a home in London. She was 56 years old.

The cause of death has not been disclosed, but the London police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

O’Connor was the mother of four children. Her 17-year-old son, Shane, died last year after going missing for several days.

She was a vocalist known for her pure and clear voice, combined with exceptional songwriting skills that evoked her views on politics, spirituality, history, and philosophy.

Her debut album, “The Lion and the Cobra,” was released to critical acclaim in 1987, but it was O’Connor’s second album from 1990, “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” that opened the doors to her success.
