Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras, one of the three main airlines in Brazil, announced that it will relaunch operations from its hub at Recife-Guararapes International Airport to Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.
A Azul is the largest airline in Brazil in terms of the number of flights and destinations served. Founded in 2008 by David Neeleman, the airline has grown rapidly and has become the airline that many Brazilians consider the best in the country. Compared to LATAM Brazil, its long-haul international operations are limited, with only four cities served: two in the United States and two in Europe.
On Friday (12), the airline announced that starting June 5, it would resume flights from its hub at Recife-Guararapes International Airport to Orlando International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The flights were suspended last month due to capacity restrictions of its fleet, but with the acquisition of new aircraft, Azul will be able to resume flights just three months after suspending them.
In June, each route will operate only once a week, with flights to Fort Lauderdale on Wednesdays and flights to Orlando on Thursdays. In July, Azul will increase flights to Fort Lauderdale to twice a week and to Orlando three times a week. Unlike most routes to the United States, where aircraft remain on the ground in Brazil all day before flying back to the U.S. at night, Azul will fly to the U.S. during the day, and its return segments will operate at night.
Azul operates flights to the U.S. from five Brazilian cities: Belém, Manaus, Recife, Belo Horizonte, and Campinas. The airline’s main hub is at Viracopos International Airport in Campinas, São Paulo state. From Campinas, Azul operates daily flights to Orlando and Recife. In June, Azul will have nine weekly flights scheduled to Fort Lauderdale.
