Protests Against Trump’s Immigration Policies Spread Across US Cities

Protests against the immigration measures of US President Donald Trump’s administration, which began in Los Angeles last Friday (6), gained momentum and spread to other major cities across the country, such as Atlanta, Seattle, Dallas, Louisville, and New York, where several arrests took place. In San Francisco, at least 150 protesters were arrested. The information comes from the ANSA news agency.

In Los Angeles, the epicenter of the protests, tension persists. On Sunday (8), there were clashes between protesters and National Guard agents sent by Trump. Even so, hundreds of people took to the streets peacefully on Monday (9), carrying US and Mexico flags in repudiation of what they describe as the current administration’s “illegal” policies.

In response to the escalation of protests, the US Northern Command announced the deployment of 700 Marines to Los Angeles, while awaiting the arrival of a second National Guard contingent mobilized by the president. California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized the move on his social media. “I was just informed that Trump is sending another 2,000 National Guard soldiers to Los Angeles. The first 2,000 [sent on Sunday]? Without food or water. Only about 300 are mobilized; the rest are idle in federal buildings without orders,” he posted.

Newsom went further, accusing the president of prioritizing personal interests over public safety: “This is not about public safety. It’s about inflating the ego of a dangerous president. This is reckless. It’s unnecessary. And it’s disrespectful to our troops”.
