The US government under Donald Trump has once again disrespected Brazil’s sovereignty by openly interfering in its internal affairs. This interference, following the order from Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes for house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro, was a clear violation of Brazilian sovereignty.
On social media, the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, a division of the US Department of State, used aggressive and threatening language, creating a tense and worrying diplomatic situation.
“Let Bolsonaro Speak! The United States condemns Moraes’ order imposing house arrest on Bolsonaro and will hold accountable all those who collaborate or facilitate sanctioned conduct,” stated the office linked to the Trump administration.
On Tuesday (5), the US government profile, a platform used to disseminate official government statements and shape public opinion, commented again on the case. This platform, with its large number of followers and influence, plays a significant role in shaping public perception and opinion on important issues.
“The unchecked Orwellian impulses of the Minister [referring to the English author George Orwell, who wrote the book 1984, which depicts a totalitarian dictatorship] are dragging your Court and your country into the uncharted territory of a judicial dictatorship,” said the undersecretary of the institution.
