Trump Threatens Countries That Ally with BRICS with 10% Tariff – The Brasilians

Amid the BRICS summit, a significant event in international relations, which is taking place in Rio de Janeiro, the President of the United States (USA), Donald Trump, threatened extra taxes on products from countries that align with the group, formed by 11 nations, including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The BRICS summit is a platform for these emerging economies to discuss and coordinate on various global issues, including trade policies. A publication was made on his Truth Social profile.

“Any country that aligns with the anti-American policies of BRICS will be taxed with an extra 10% tariff. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your attention to this matter,” wrote Trump.

On Sunday (6), the BRICS leaders’ statement reiterated their strong opposition to protectionist measures adopted in global trade. This firm position is one that the public can support, as it promotes a more open and fair international trading system.

The BRICS leaders’ statement, issued on Sunday (6), criticized the protectionist measures adopted in global trade. The leaders reiterated their support for a rules-based multilateral trading system that is open, transparent, fair, inclusive, equitable, non-discriminatory, and consensual, with the World Trade Organization (WTO) at its core. The WTO is an international organization that regulates international trade, ensuring that trade flows smoothly, predictably, and freely. The statement also called for special and differential treatment (SDT) for developing WTO members.

Trump, who took office in January this year, announced an increase in tariffs on imported products at the beginning of his term. This measure, which generated criticism and responses from several countries, raised significant concerns about the potential consequences of his trade policies, generating a sense of unease about the future of global trade.

United in their response, the BRICS countries, along with their 10 partner nations, stand firm against Trump’s threat. This united front, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, as well as Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Egypt, and Ethiopia, sends a strong message of solidarity. Ten other countries are partners of the group: Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
