In a historic victory, Republican Donald Trump surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the Presidency of the USA and return to the White House.
On the morning of November 6, even before the vote counting had finished across the country, Trump had already won in crucial states – Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, securing the necessary number of Electoral College votes.
He spoke to supporters in Florida, promising to seal America’s borders and “heal” the country.
Trump stated that it was an extraordinary honor to receive from the American people the powerful mandate that makes him the 47th president of the United States, having previously served as the 45th.
The Democratic candidate Kamala Harris had secured only 223 votes at the time of this report’s publication (Wednesday afternoon).
There were still 4 states to be confirmed, with a total of 36 Electoral College votes. Of these, Trump leads by a good margin in 3 of them, which would secure the Republican an additional 32 Electoral College votes.
The Republicans won the Senate and may also secure the majority in the House of Representatives (at the time of this article’s publication, Republicans were leading the count for the House with 200 of the 218 seats needed for a majority), giving Trump a comfortable advantage for the approval of his projects, such as building the wall on the United States-Mexico border and strengthening the border, his main promise in this campaign.
