Brazilian actress and writer Fernanda Torres was honored by the Critics Choice Awards in the category of Actress – International Film for her performance in I’m Still Here.
The award is part of the 4th edition of the Celebration of Latino Cinema and Television, which took place on October 22 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
“The Celebration honors outstanding performances and works, both in front of and behind the cameras, from the Latin entertainment community,” stated the Critics Choice Awards on Instagram.
On social media, the actress celebrated and said that the initiative proposed by the association represents “one of the main awards in the world of cinema.”
Directed by Walter Salles, I’m Still Here features Fernanda Torres, Fernanda Montenegro, and Selton Mello in the cast and is based on the autobiographical book by Marcelo Rubens Paiva.
In the film, the character Eunice Paiva, played by Fernanda Torres, is the mother of five children and finds herself forced to reinvent after her family suffers a violent and arbitrary act by the government during the military dictatorship.
The film was chosen to represent Brazil in the race for the Oscar for Best International Film in 2025. The announcement was made by the Brazilian Academy of Cinema after a unanimous decision by the selection committee.
I’m Still Here won the Best Screenplay award at the Venice Film Festival and was screened at the Toronto and San Sebastián festivals.
