US Rival, Brazil to Compete in Seven Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Finals in Paris – The Brasilians

US Rival, Brazil to Compete in Seven Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Finals in Paris

The qualifying night in artistic gymnastics in Paris on Sunday (28) was highly fruitful for Brazil. Including the team competition, the all-around, and the four apparatuses (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor), the country will send seven representatives to the medal phase.

The highlights were the team, which achieved the fourth-best score, and multi-champion Rebeca Andrade, who qualified for four individual finals, all cases among the top three scores. The team finals will be on Tuesday (30) and the individual finals on Thursday (August 1).

The team coached by Chico Porath scored 166.499 points, behind the USA, Italy, and China. In the all-around, Rebeca Andrade had the second-highest score, behind Simone Biles from the USA. On the floor, Rebeca Andrade again had the second-best score, behind Simone Biles.

Flávia Saraiva had the 11th-best score and finished 10th among the finalists. An athlete from the USA scored better than Flávia Saraiva but did not qualify because the USA already had two athletes qualified, and the limit is two per country. For the same reason, another Brazilian, Jade Barbosa, who had the 20th-best score, will not compete in the final, which includes 24 gymnasts.

On the uneven bars, expectations were frustrated: neither Biles (ninth, with 14.433) nor Andrade (tenth, with 14.400) managed to secure a spot in the medal competition. However, both are the first reserves in case another athlete withdraws.
