8 Million Enjoyed the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro This Year

Approximately 8 million people enjoyed the Carnival in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Six million revelers spread across 399 street blocks, including the parades on Avenida Marquês de Sapucaí, Intendente Magalhães, Terreirão do Samba, popular balls, and parades on Avenida Chile and Cinelândia in the city center.

About R$ 5 billion were injected into the Rio economy, with R$ 500 million collected in ISS (Service Tax). In the tourism and events sectors alone, R$ 40 million in ISS was collected. Additionally, more than 50,000 direct jobs were created.

The economic results of this year’s carnival were announced this Wednesday (21) by Riotur. “It was a carnival with record attendance, ISS collection, and infrastructure. We broke the record with 60 popular balls,” said the president of Riotur, Ronnie Costa.

Avenida Marquês de Sapucaí alone had about 120,000 people per day over six days of parades. Terreirão do Samba featured 41 attractions over 10 days of events. The carnival at Intendente Magalhães had 250,000 people participating over six days of parades. The popular balls organized by Riotur attracted 720,000 people across 60 stages during the four-day event.
