This Wednesday, the Meta platform (Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp) launched its newest app. Threads is the bet on microblogging that promises to dethrone Twitter.
It’s no secret that since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the platform has been losing many users. Positioned by Meta as “a separate space for real-time information and public conversations,” Threads arrives with an audacious proposal. “It will take some time, but I think there should be a public conversation app with over 1 billion people,” Mark said in a post. “Twitter had the chance to do this but failed. I hope we can.”
The provocations don’t stop there. The biggest minds in today’s tech world (digital space) have been trading barbs over posts for some time. It all started when Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight. That’s right, outside the virtual world, with none other than Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), as the organizer of this battle between giants.
The app, which arrived just in time to spice up this battle even more, will use the same structure as Instagram to facilitate the onboarding of new users and has already gained over 30 million sign-ups in just 24 hours.
In addition to posts with 500 characters and videos over 5 minutes, Threads has no posting limits and no content viewing restrictions, which has been one of the main reasons users have abandoned Twitter. Provocation?
According to The Wall Street Journal, a Twitter lawyer sent a letter to Meta raising concerns about possible “misappropriation” of the new app. It was also alleged that Meta hired Twitter employees with the aim of obtaining trade secrets or intellectual property.
Andy Stone, Meta’s spokesperson, responded to the matter on Threads, stating: “No member of the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee – that’s simply not true.”
With this new app in play, it doesn’t matter which side you’re on, this entertainment showdown is something you won’t want to miss – both online and offline. Everything indicates that the fight will take place in the octagon in Las Vegas, and according to White, the physical battle is approaching, with the main details already outlined.
