Brazil’s Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said today (Jan 18) that the country may request changes to its proposal to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The topic is being discussed in a working group that is expected to advise President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the next steps to be taken by Brazil, he stated.
The minister emphasized that nothing prevents the nation from requesting its admission to the group according to its interests. He noted that the country is already participating in meetings of various technical committees of the OECD. “It is not an all-or-nothing situation. There is room for discussion. Brazil can make changes to its request. Other countries can too,” he added, after meeting with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
