Tired of Jet Lag? This App Will Help Reset Your Clock

Timeshifter announced the launch of its Timeshifter app for iOS and Android, developed to help travelers eliminate jet lag. Timeshifter is based on the latest research in sleep and circadian neuroscience and was developed with a leading expert in the field of circadian rhythms, Harvard Medical School Associate Professor Steven Lockley, Ph.D.

The algorithm behind the new Timeshifter app is already helping astronauts, elite athletes, and high-level CEOs. Now, this much-needed tool is available to everyone.

“Helping travelers overcome jet lag is a perfect example of how mobile devices will improve our lives in unexpected ways, and represents a paradigm shift in jet lag solutions,” says Mickey Beyer-Clausen, CEO of Timeshifter. “We are excited to finally put an end to all the myths and misinformation about jet lag that exist out there, and instead offer an effective tool that truly addresses the underlying cause of jet lag.”

Jet lag is caused when the sleep-wake and light-dark cycles change too quickly. Our 24-hour circadian clock adapts easily in minutes per day in response to changes in sunrise and sunset, but when crossing multiple time zones quickly, the brain simply cannot keep up. Timeshifter not only provides advice to alleviate the disruptive symptoms of jet lag, such as insomnia and drowsiness, but also addresses the underlying circadian disruption by quickly resynchronizing the circadian clock with the new time zone, reducing the negative impact of jet lag on other brain and bodily functions.

“The problems caused by jet lag cannot be solved with generic advice, which is too simplistic and often counterproductive, worsening jet lag,” says Dr. Steven Lockley. “Every traveler and every trip is different and requires a personalized approach that takes into account their sleep pattern, chronotype, flight plan, and a range of personal preferences.”

Timeshifter generates highly personalized jet lag plans based on the traveler’s sleep pattern, chronotype, flight plan, and optional preferences, such as pre-trip adjustment or the use of melatonin for even faster adaptation. Timeshifter incorporates a real-world “practicality” filter, ensuring that the advice is realistic and easy to follow; there is also a unique Quick Turnaround feature for business travelers who want to be at their best during short business trips that are not long enough to allow for a complete adjustment. A notification system provides simple yet powerful advice, even during the flight. Using Timeshifter is a straightforward and empowering experience, and does not require special equipment.

The launch partners of Timeshifter include Under Armour and Six Senses – Under Armour is bringing Timeshifter to its elite athletes, while Six Senses will offer the app to its resort and hotel guests.

“Under Armour’s pursuit of athlete optimization includes the areas of sleep, travel, and recovery. Timeshifter is a solution we use with elite athletes to accelerate recovery and reduce the effects of jet lag, giving them a competitive edge.” – Michael Watts, Athlete Performance and Innovation at Under Armour.

“We all love to feel good when traveling for business or leisure, but when flying long distances, jet lag can cause stress, fatigue, irritability, and restless nights. We are thrilled to partner with Timeshifter and provide our guests with a cutting-edge tool to help them make the most of their time with us at Six Senses and be at their best after arriving home.” – Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas
