Nokia predicted that Brazil will host the world’s largest auction of spectrum suitable for 5G when it conducts the sale in 2020, Reuters reported.
Wilson Cardoso, CTO of Nokia for Latin America, spoke to the news agency in an interview, stating that the company is firmly focused on the deployment of 5G in the country, with Brazil being its largest market in the region.
In May, Anatel allocated the 2.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz frequencies for 5G, while 26 GHz and 700 MHz will be used to support ultra-reliable and low-latency communications for industrial use.
If the agency decides to sell all four in the same auction, scheduled for March 2020, Cardoso said it will be the largest 5G auction in the world to date, describing 26 GHz and 700 MHz as the “crown jewels.”
Indeed, Cardoso told Mobile World Live in December 2018 that he was confident that 5G in Latin America would first reach industries, with the company working with operators in both Chile and Brazil in mining, smart grids, and agriculture, where he believes the true potential of 5G lies.
