The Sunniest State – The Brasilians

The Sunniest State

Ceará has 573 km of coastline. In some cities, like the capital Fortaleza, the sun shines for more than 200 days a year. It is a perfect destination for those who want to swim in the sea at any season.

Where to go?
Fortaleza
Fortaleza is the capital of Ceará. Praia do Futuro (Futuro Beach) is the favorite spot for locals and visitors: along its 8km of coastline, you will find clean waters, white sands, plenty of waves, freshwater showers, and many beach huts and restaurants (some of them with pools). That’s why it attracts families, as well as surfers and sailors.

Among its main tourist attractions are the famous Dragão do Mar Center for Art and Culture, with multiple galleries, museums, cinemas, and theaters, or the spectacular Metropolitan Cathedral of Fortaleza.
Canoa Quebrada
In Aracati, you will find one of the most famous beaches in Ceará: Canoa Quebrada. The former fishing village was discovered as a tourist destination in the 1960s when filmmakers from the French New Wave arrived there.
Although it attracts many visitors, Canoa Quebrada preserves much of its original rustic atmosphere. You can see jangadas on the sea. The colorful cliffs that contribute to the place’s reputation are still there: beautifully preserved.
Next to the beach is the village of Canoa Quebrada, a great place to visit after a day at sea. The shops in the center sell local crafts. And the restaurants, some run by international chefs, serve delicious meals.
Jericoacoara
Jericoacoara is the 4th best beach in the world according to the Huffington Post.
Despite the title, the lifestyle of the fishing village is very lively. Jericoacoara is located 250km from Fortaleza. Its streets are made of sand and there is no public lighting. There is a good explanation for this: first, you can only reach it by 4×4 vehicles; second, the place has become a National Park that ensures the preservation of its nature.
When visiting the town, don’t miss its warm and crystal-clear lagoons, great for swimming. The town is known for its lagoons: the rustic Lagoa Azul and the more structured Lagoa Paraíso. Both share the same surface water, very popular among kitesurfing enthusiasts.
