Some paths are traced even before taking the first step. They are prompted by a dream, a desire to go beyond. For some, this 
journey leads them to cross borders and start a life in a new country. But for this trip, there is one essential item: courage.
On September 2, 2018, celebrating the determination of Brazilians who rebuilt their lives abroad, BR Day brought to New York a lot of music and the incredible energy of the 
Brazilian people. Hosted by Ana Furtado, the event gathered more than a million people, who enjoyed performances by the rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso, the sertanejo duo Matheus & Kauan, the winner of The Voice Kids Eduarda Brasil, and music producer Dennis, who had special appearances by 
MC Koringa and Toni Garrido.
The first to take the stage, Eduarda Brasil could not hide her emotion of performing for over 1 million people. She moved the audience with 
the classic “forró,” a typical rhythm from Brazil’s Northeast. The rock band Os Paralamas do Sucesso followed and reminded the audience of the 
importance and success of Brazilian music from the 80s. It was hard to find a Brazilian who didn’t sing at least one of the many hits from the Paralamas. In their first 
international performance, Matheus and Kauan brought the romanticism of Brazilian sertanejo music to 6th Avenue. The audience enjoyed singing along to many of the duo’s hits. And as if the show couldn’t get any more exciting, Dennis debuted Brazilian funk at BR 
Day. The rhythm that was born in the United States and gained a new style in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro triumphed on 6th Avenue and closed the party with the highest level of enthusiasm possible.
BR Day NY is co-produced by businessman João de Matos and André Dias, special projects director at TV Globo.
The event, which is now the largest Brazilian party abroad, was created in 1984 on 46th Street, also known as “Little Brazil,” by João 
de Matos and a group of Brazilians who wanted to celebrate Brazil’s Independence Day and feel closer to their homeland.
As more and more people attended the event over the years, the festivities had to be expanded to 6th Avenue.
Today, BR Day NY is a complex event that takes place every Sunday before Labor Day, bringing together over a million people annually. Many of the participants come from neighboring states. This incredible audience, waving flags and wearing Brazil’s green and yellow colors, made the party even more special.
