Newark Liberty International Airport is one of the three major airports serving the New York Metropolitan Area (the others are John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia in NY) and the main airport serving the state of New Jersey. A recent
modernization has made this airport a preferred option for many travelers.
The United Airlines, the largest tenant of the airport (operating in all three terminals of Newark), has introduced several improvements in Terminal C in recent years to better meet the needs of its customers.
United Airlines has revamped the security checkpoint in Terminal C to include 17 state-of-the-art automated screening lanes, allowing customers to pass through the screening process more quickly. Terminal C at Newark Liberty Airport is the first checkpoint in the country to feature exclusively the new lanes.
“The opening of our completely remodeled and state-of-the-art checkpoint in Newark reinforces our commitment to using the
latest technology to enhance the airport experience for our customers,” said Greg Hart, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of United.
In 2014, the airline opened a new Global Services reception lobby for its top frequent travelers and collaborated with OTG to unveil an elevated dining and retail experience in the terminal, featuring cutting-edge technology, premium dining options, and innovative design.
Last month, United Airlines debuted its new United Polaris Lounge, featuring daybeds, shower suites, private dining, and much more for customers traveling on United Polaris®, the airline’s international premium cabin experience.
Among the various amenities, the lounge offers a private dining area with table service for up to 48 guests, with a menu developed by New York chef John Glowacki, and a bistro-style buffet that includes a make-your-own bagel bar, as well as sandwiches and wraps.
Simple Route
Getting to Manhattan from Newark (or vice versa) is simple and faster than you think. As soon as you exit security, look for signs for the AIRTRAIN. This is a free airport train. Take the AIRTRAIN to the Newark Liberty Airport Station.
At the Newark Liberty Airport Train Station, buy a ticket at the NJ Transit counter or at a kiosk to New York Penn Station. The fare is $13 each way. Trains depart approximately every 10 minutes. In 30 minutes, you
will arrive at New York Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan.
Six NJ TRANSIT trains arrive per hour, Monday to Friday, between 6 AM and 9 PM, at the airport station. Between 9 PM and midnight, four trains arrive per hour. Service is not available overnight between 2 AM and 5 AM.
If you prefer to drive, the trip from New York, Midtown, to Newark Liberty Airport can be faster than to JFK Airport in Queens. The average travel time to Newark during rush hour is about 53 minutes, while the average time to JFK is 69 minutes.
