2017 Person of the Year Awards

The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. is proud to announce Mr. João Doria as the Brazilian recipient of the 2017 Person of the Year Awards.

A Brazilian businessman and journalist, Mr. Doria is President (on leave) of Grupo Doria and Founder & President (on leave) of the Executive Committee of LIDE Grupo de Líderes Empresariais, an event promotion agency founded in 2003 with 1,700 national and multinational registered member companies (accounting for 52% of Brazil’s private GDP). In 2015 and 2016, he organized major events in New York, attracting a large group of Brazilian and American businessmen. Mr. Doria is also a member of the Conselho Deliberativo do Fundo Social de Solidariedade of the State of São Paulo and Mayor-elect of São Paulo, to take office January 1, 2017.

The Person of the Year Awards has been organized annually since 1970 by The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. The ceremony honors two outstanding leaders who have been particularly instrumental in forging closer ties between Brazil and the United States. Over 800 leaders from the international business, financial, and diplomatic communities convene in New York City each year at this traditional gala to pay tribute to the honorees.

The 2017 Person of the Year Awards Gala Dinner will take place at The American Museum of Natural History in New York on Tuesday, May 16th.
