The new president of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Juarez Quadros (photo), has made the expansion of access to telecommunications services a priority of his term, which runs until November 4, 2018.
Estimates from Anatel indicate that 75% of households in Brazil do not have access to broadband. According to him, this number is partly due to the lack of service coverage in areas more distant from major centers.
The challenge, according to Quadros, is to fight for the universalization of access to broadband in Brazil.
“There are still many places without access to technologies such as mobile and fixed telephony, broadband, 3G and 4G connections. We need to bring telecommunications to every corner of Brazil,” he emphasized.
The quality of the service provided to consumers is another concern of the new president of Anatel, who sees user satisfaction as the main measurement parameter.
“The ideal is to know how the consumer wants to be served, and we will seek this integration,” Quadros stated, recalling that the Brazilian telecommunications network is the fifth largest in the world, with a 4% share of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Legislation
Juarez Quadros advocated for the approval of Bill (PL) No. 3453/2015, currently under consideration in the Chamber of Deputies, which allows Anatel to change the licensing modality of telecommunications services from concession to authorization.
According to him, the measure will improve service quality and provide more agility to granting processes.
“We need the modernization of legislation so that services can be granted more quickly and with quality. The PL resolves the issue of grants. This gives more flexibility for exploring companies to provide the service more quickly and with quality, in addition to reaching areas where it is not yet available,” he said.
