This year the party starts on Saturday

Brazilians from various corners of the country eagerly await all year for the biggest Brazilian party held outside of Brazil. But this year, the celebrations are not limited to the Sunday before Labor Day. Anyone wanting to enjoy the full program must arrive in the city on Saturday, September 2, when the “Esquenta do Brazilian Day” will take place.

The event will treat the audience to performances of capoeira and maculelê, as well as a parade featuring a samba school drumline complete with dancers and a mestre-sala and porta-bandeira. All of this will take place in the heart of Manhattan and for free. With a stage set up in Little Brazil (46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues), the parade will concentrate in Times Square, departing at 11 AM towards the stage. The audience will be able to follow everything up close and even participate in the classes that will be part of the festival.

The “Esquenta do Brazilian Day” is co-produced by businessman João de Matos, founder of Brazilian Day New York, choreographer and capoeira master Jelon Vieira, and musician percussionist Carlos Oliveira, founder of the NGO Brazilian Council on Samba. In a chat with the organizers, The Brasilians brings more details about this great party that will make the entire weekend green and yellow.
