Classic of Literature: Operation Trojan Horse

As J.J. Benítez himself states, “to advance the argument and the nature of Trojan Horse 1 is to break the disconcerting mystery that its pages hold.” We can say, indeed, that for the development of this work, the author relied on real documentation, kept for years in the United States. Documentation that exposes a wealth of new data about the personality and work of Jesus of Nazareth. We can affirm that – as a large part of humanity suspects – the great powers hide many of their space and military projects. We can reveal, for example, that in 1973 the U.S. Air Force, after several years of preparation and a multitude of adventures, executed in the heart of Israel one of its “super-secret” projects, which was precisely named “Operation Trojan Horse.” But we cannot reveal to the reader how J.J. Benítez obtained this fascinating “confidential” documentation, nor the astonishing unfolding of the aforementioned operation and its disconcerting end. That would break the charm of “Trojan Horse 1,” the first testimonial book by the Navarrese journalist and writer. In the author’s words: “Only the future, as happened with Jules Verne, will show whether this account was or was not true.”

When I first read Trojan Horse by J.J. Benítez, I was around fifteen or sixteen years old and even then, I was impressed by the story of the last days of Jesus of Nazareth. Today, many years later, a re-reading has only confirmed what I had thought in the past: A brilliant and challenging work. J.J. Benítez wants to make us believe that the entire story contained in Trojan Horse is real and that it was written by him, based on the accounts of the Major, in a more journalistic manner, implying that the religious adoration surrounding the Nazarene was left out.

Regardless of whether some even believe that time travel is true, I see the story as a science fiction book and nothing more. However, Benítez’s writing is so firm and resolute that at various moments you find yourself asking the question: Really??

I believe that Trojan Horse should be “almost” mandatory for everyone who enjoys an excellent and unmissable read.
