The Tijuca National Park, in Rio de Janeiro, was the conservation unit that received the most visitors in 2017: 3.3 million people. According to the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the parks in the country received 20% more tourists last year.
The second most visited park was the Iguaçu National Park (PR), with 1.8 million visitors. Considered a natural heritage of humanity by UNESCO, the Iguaçu Falls are the main attraction of the unit, which is located at the Triple Frontier (Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay). The Jericoacoara National Park (CE) was the third most visited: in 2017, it received 800,000 people and also gained an airport with direct national flights.
