Bibi was one of the greatest names in Brazilian theater. Daughter of Procópio Ferreira, also an actor, and Aída Izquierdo Ferreira, a Spanish dancer, Bibi debuted on stage as a baby, replacing a scene with a puppet representing a newborn and never stopped thereafter.
Her father Procópio guided Bibi towards an artistic career, where she became renowned for her performances in major musicals such as “My Fair Lady,” “The Man of La Mancha,” and “Hello, Dolly.” In Brazil, her great success was with the show “Gota d’Água.”
In addition to the stage, her tributes to Edith Piaf, Amália Rodrigues, and Frank Sinatra remain unforgettable.
Bibi Ferreira is now immortalized with a theater bearing her name and the “Bibi Ferreira” award, considered the most important event in musical theater in Brazil, which was conceived in 2011 between
the Marcenaria de Cultura, the Broadway League and American Wings, responsible for the Tony Awards (New York), and the Theatrical Society of London, responsible for the Olivier Awards (London).
Bibi exuded energy even at an advanced age. She performed in the shows “Bibi Ferreira Sings Sinatra’s Repertoire,” where she interpreted songs that became hits in Sinatra’s voice, such as “Cheek to Cheek,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “The Lady Is a Tramp,” in addition to the acclaimed “Bibi Ferreira – For All My Life,” where she recalled great successes from her career and personalities in her artistic journey, culminating in the grand tribute in the show “Bibi, a Life in Musical.”
Bibi passed away at the age of 96 from a cardiac arrest in her apartment.
“I was very happy with my career. I am very proud of everything I did. Thank you to everyone who in some way was with me, to all who watched me, to all who accompanied me for years and years. Thank you very much!” (Bibi Ferreira)
