Nascido em São Joaquim da Barra (SP), em 1936, Boldrin foi ator de filmes premiados, de novelas de grande audiência e compositor, cantor, apresentador e grande contador de causos.

He acted in more than 30 soap operas, such as “O Direito de Nascer”; “As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor”; “Os Deuses Estão Mortos”; “Quero Viver”; “Mulheres de Areia”; “Os Inocentes”; “A Viagem”; “O Profeta”; “Roda de Fogo”; “Cara a Cara”; “Cavalo Amarelo” and “Os Imigrantes”.

With his television programs, Boldrin became an emblematic figure of Brazilian popular culture. He presented the shows “Som Brasil” on Rede Globo; “Empório Brasileiro” on TV Bandeirantes; and “Empório Brasil” on SBT. On TV Cultura, he has been in charge of “Sr. Brasil” since 2005.

National Day of Music and Viola Caipira

And on the day of Boldrin’s passing, a prominent figure in Brazilian caipira music, the Senate approved the project that establishes the “National Day of Music and Viola Caipira,” to be celebrated annually on July 13. The choice of date was made in reference to the birth of Cornélio Pires, journalist, writer, folklorist, and ethnographer of caipira culture and dialect.

The rapporteur of the proposal, Senator Izalci Lucas of the PSDB from the Federal District, highlighted the work of the honoree:

“Author of more than two dozen books, Cornélio sought to record the vocabulary, songs, terms, and expressions used by the caipiras. It was through his efforts that, in 1928, the first recordings of genuine caipiras were turned into records,” said the senator.

Izalci also noted that caipira music is genuinely Brazilian and showcases the richness of national and regional cultural diversity. He further pointed out that the viola caipira is the symbol of this tradition that maintains deep roots in Brazilian culture.
