The police investigating the disappearance of British Madeleine McCann, who went missing 16 years ago, will conduct a new search in Portugal based on a recent tip, German authorities informed CNN on Monday (22).
The new search will take place near the Arade reservoir, close to the Portuguese city of Silves, about 50 kilometers from the resort where McCann disappeared in 2007, and is scheduled to begin this Tuesday (23) and last a maximum of two days.
Authorities will focus on land rather than water. Inspectors will look for objects that may be of interest to the investigation or rule out hypotheses.
The spokesperson for the public prosecutor’s office in the German city of Braunschweig said that the Portuguese police decided to search the reservoir after a tip-off in Germany.
The site had already been searched in 2008, when divers found bones that were later proven to be animal remains.Remember the case
Madeleine McCann was three years old when she disappeared from the hotel room where she was staying on May 3, 2007, during a family vacation in the Algarve region. The girl was sleeping with her two siblings while her parents dined with friends at the resort’s restaurant, just 55 meters away.
In April 2022, Portuguese and German authorities named Christian Brückner – a German citizen who lived in the Algarve between 1995 and 2007 – as the official suspect in McCann’s disappearance. He has denied any involvement in the case.
