The governments of Brazil and Japan have reached an understanding for the reciprocal exemption of visit visas for holders of ordinary passports traveling for a period of up to 90 days. The exemption will have an initial validity of three years and will take effect from September 30, 2023.
With this measure, Brazilian and Japanese tourists will be able to visit Japan and Brazil without the need to obtain visas.
The understanding stems from the announcement by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s visit to Japan last May, regarding the extension of visa exemption for Brazilians, which allowed the Brazilian government to adopt the same measure for Japanese citizens, in line with the standards of Brazilian immigration policy, based on the principles of reciprocity and equal treatment between states.
The announced exemption will contribute to the deepening of human exchange and relations between the two countries in the year that marks the 115th anniversary of Japanese immigration to Brazil.
