Brazilians Shine at the Latin Grammy – The Brasilians

The 24th edition of the Latin Grammy took place on Thursday night (16) in Seville, Spain.

The singer Simone was one of the major honorees at the event. She received a special award alongside other Latin artists.

“We are extremely honored to have the opportunity to recognize these great figures from Latin America, whose musical legacy continues to inspire new generations,” said the CEO of the Latin Academy of Recording Arts, Manuel Abud, about the honorees of 2023.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is granted to artists who have demonstrated exceptional achievements in the field of Latin music. This year, the honorees include Carmen Linares, Mijares, Arturo Sandoval, Simone, Soda Stereo, Ana Torroja, Alex Acuña, Gustavo Santaolalla, and Wisón Torres.

Upon receiving the award, Simone thanked all the composers, producers, and musicians, as well as her fans and her wife. “My love for music over these 50 years has been so great that it has become my own existence,” she said.

Marília Mendonça won in the category “Best Sertanejo Album.” She received a posthumous tribute. The award was given for the album “Descobertas Reais,” released in May 2023.

“Best Song in Portuguese” went to Tiago Lorc for “Tudo O Que A Fé Pode Tocar,” a collaboration with Duda Rodrigues.

“Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese” was awarded to singer Xênia França for the album “Em Nome da Estrela.”

“Best Roots Music Album in Portuguese” went to Gaby Amarantos for her album “TecnoShow.”

“Best Samba/Pagode Album” was awarded to Martinho da Vila for “Negra Ópera.”

“Best Urban Interpretation in Portuguese” went to Criolo and Planet Hemp for the song “Distopia.”

Planet Hemp also took home “Best Rock or Alternative Music Album” with the album “Jardineiros.”

“Best Christian Music Album” was awarded to Eli Soares.

“Best Brazilian Popular Music Album” went to João Donato, another posthumous tribute, with the album “Serotonina.”
