Police departments across the country are warning people, especially parents and guardians, about a privacy update that inadvertently allows users to share information they may not want others to have.
According to agencies from various states, the new update includes a feature that allows users to share information and photos by contact, simply by holding two iPhones together.
The feature, called NameDrop, is activated by users who have installed the recent software update for iOS 17.
How to turn off NameDrop: the new iPhone feature
When users install the update, the default setting for NameDrop is ‘ON’.
As a safety measure, police are advising parents whose children have iPhones to change this iPhone setting to “OFF”.
To turn off the feature, follow these instructions: Go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Receiving Devices, and select ‘OFF’.
