Singer Anitta won the Best Latin Music Video category at the MTV Video Music Awards, which took place at UBS Arena in New York on Tuesday night (12).
This is the second VMA received by the Brazilian singer. Last year, Anitta became the first Brazilian to perform on the VMA stage and also won a trophy for Best Latin Song with “Envolver.”
“I can’t believe it. Brazil, we are here again. For the second time. Thank you to my fans, I would be nothing without them, I owe everything I have to them. Thank you so much!” Anitta said in her speech, where she also thanked her record label, her team, her brother Renan, and herself.
“I want to thank myself because I worked really hard! You are listening to Brazilian funk and you will hear much more, this is just the beginning!” the singer added.
The awarded music video is for the song “Funk Rave,” which was competing against Bad Bunny (“Where She Goes”), Eslabon Armado & Peso Pluma (“Ella Baila Sola”), Grupo Frontera & Bad Bunny (“un x100to”), Karol G & Shakira (“TQG”), Rosalía (“Despechá”), and Shakira (“Acróstico”).
The music video, which had creative direction from the singer herself, reached over 16 million views on YouTube.
Performance Shook UBS Arena
Anitta took the stage singing “Savage Funk” from her latest album Funk Generation, and “Alegria,” a single with Tiago PZK and Emilia that was released in August. The singer also performed “Paradise” alongside Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, and Tiago PZK.
At the end of “Paradise,” Fat Joe referred to Anitta as the “Queen of Brazil.” The audience got excited and danced along with the Brazilian singer.
Anitta released her album Funk Generation on April 26. A review from Rolling Stone about the singer’s new work noted that the album “thrives when Anitta takes risks” and adds that the singer “has what it takes to be a pioneer in the future of funk in pop and captivate audiences in Brazil and around the world.”
Swift Once Again Leads Awards
Taylor Swift’s dominance continues at the MTV Video Music Awards. This year, she took home seven awards — including the biggest of the night, the trophy for Video of the Year.
In her speech, Swift thanked her “boyfriend, Travis” for being on the set of the “Fortnight” music video and cheering for her. The audience went wild.
“Everything this man touches turns into happiness, fun, and magic,” she said, before shifting the topic to the 2024 presidential election and urging her fans over 18 to register to vote.
Taylor Swift announced her support for Kamala Harris on Tuesday night (10), following the first presidential debate of this election cycle.
Swift’s collection of awards brings her total to 30 in her career, tying her with Beyoncé for the title of the most awarded musician in VMA history. Eminem is now the male artist with the most VMAs, with 15.
