Is it too expensive for a middle-class family to visit Disney? Many people believe so, and apparently, Disney itself does too.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, discussions have been taking place at Disney about whether middle-class families are simply being excluded from Disney’s resorts and theme parks due to the high cost of visiting them.
Currently, it costs over $200 per person to visit Disney parks on the most popular days. If you add in the skip-the-line passes, you could reach $450. Not to mention the hundreds of dollars you will likely spend on food and souvenirs.
A recent survey conducted by Harris Poll found that about three-quarters of respondents believe that Disney is now financially out of reach for families.
The Wall Street Journal, citing internal Disney sources, reports that company executives are beginning to think that recent price increases have gone too far.
Disney’s own surveys have found that the percentage of people planning to return to the park is decreasing. And the reason seems to be the cost.
So, what should the company do? Look after the interests of its customers or protect the profits of its shareholders?
Which path will Team Mickey take? For now, Disney still seems to believe it is offering a great experience for the money charged. And many people agree with that.
