There were 262,108 arrivals in February and 240,151 in January, totaling 502,259 foreign visitors, a 50% increase compared to the same period last year.
The tourists arrived from neighboring South American countries. Here’s where most of the visitors came from: Argentina – 196,649, Chile – 96,226, United States – 52,701, Uruguay – 19,898, France – 18,472, United Kingdom – 12,943, Portugal – 12,083, Germany – 10,702, and Italy – 6,836.
The state government aims to reach 1.8 million international tourists in 2025, a 20% increase compared to the total of 1.5 million recorded last year. Governor Cláudio Castro emphasized the importance of the work to position Rio as a global destination.
“The 50% growth in international tourism is a reflection of our actions to strengthen the state’s image and attract major events. We are working to ensure that this upward trend continues to boost the economy and generate jobs for the people of Rio,” Castro assessed.
The State Tourism Secretariat has been participating in major industry events, such as the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL). Secretary Gustavo Tutuca represented Rio at the meeting in Portugal.
“Reaching half a million international tourists in two months is a historic milestone for Rio de Janeiro and a direct reflection of the work we are doing to consolidate the state as a global destination. The 50% growth shows that our promotional actions are yielding results and that the world continues to choose Rio,” Tutuca said.
