Young people say AI helps reduce study stress

Nine in ten young people reported that Artificial Intelligence (AI) helped them reduce stress during more intense study periods, particularly during evaluations, exams, and individual or group project deadlines. The survey was conducted by Emy Education, an AI platform.

“We discovered that in the last 6 months, nearly 96% of our respondents used artificial intelligence to learn something new,” said José Messias Jr., CEO and founder of Emy.

One of the study’s questions asked: “What is the main role that AI should play in youth learning?” According to the research, 86.8% responded that “AI should be a support tool for quick answers.” The other two main desires were “an AI that acts as a personalized mentor” and “an AI that helps automate repetitive tasks.”

When asked about factors preventing them from using AI more frequently, nearly 60% cited “fear of receiving wrong or highly distorted answers.” Another 35% said their biggest concern was “lack of context and personalization in responses.”

The survey ran from March to the end of August this year and covered at least one intense study period, such as end-of-first-semester schedules.

The questionnaire individually reached more than 500 young people aged 16 to 24, all high school and college students. Among high schoolers, most attend public schools. In higher education, nearly 85% of respondents are at private institutions.

“Most respondents, around 32%, come from families with monthly income below R$ 3,500, thus class D according to IBGE. Next are students with family income up to R$ 8,000 per month, accounting for 31.40% of respondents. The top of the social pyramid—family income over R$ 25,000 per month—was minimally engaged, representing just 1.60% of responses,” explained Emy, the research organization.

“Our research reveals a dimension still little explored in the public debate. Basically, digital native youth can engage with AI without neglecting teachers or other media in their study process,” said José Messias Jr..
