A series of international airlines canceled flights to Venezuela over the weekend, the site Axios reported this Sunday (23).
Earlier, Latam, Caribbean, Iberia, Turkish Airlines, Avianca and TAP suspended their flights, according to the Venezuelan Airlines Association (ALAV).
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned major airlines on Friday (21) about a “potentially dangerous situation” when flying over Venezuela and urged caution.
The FAA notice cited the “worsening security situation and increased military activity in Venezuela or its surroundings” and stated that the threats could pose risks to aircraft at all altitudes.
The announcement comes amid the U.S. military offensive in the region, including the country’s largest aircraft carrier, at least eight other warships and F-35 aircraft.
Washington continues deploying forces to the Caribbean but does not reveal what it is really planning. Venezuela is the main target, accused without evidence of leading a drug cartel.
