Several international airlines canceled flights to Venezuela over the weekend, reported the Axios website on Sunday (23).
Previously, Latam, Caribbean, Iberia, Turkish Airlines, Avianca and TAP suspended their flights, according to the Venezuelan Airlines Association (ALAV).
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned major airlines on Friday (21) about a “potentially dangerous situation” when flying over Venezuela and recommended caution.
The FAA alert cited the “worsening security situation and increased military activity in or around Venezuela” and said that the threats could pose risks to aircraft at all altitudes.
The announcement comes amid a U.S. military offensive in the region, including the Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, at least eight other warships and F-35 fighter jets.
Washington continues to send forces to the Caribbean but does not reveal its true plans. Venezuela is the main target, accused without evidence of leading a drug cartel.
