Brazil Named Host of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027

At the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, Brazil was announced as the host nation for the tenth FIFA Women’s World Cup, to be held in 2027, becoming the first South American nation to host the tournament.

This announcement comes after the most comprehensive bidding process ever conducted for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and – for the first time – was decided through an open vote at the FIFA Congress. Brazil received 119 votes while the joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany received 78 votes.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 will be a historic event, marking the tenth edition of a tournament that has steadily grown since its debut in China PR in 1991. Since the inaugural tournament, Sweden, the USA, Germany, Canada, France, and Australia & Aotearoa New Zealand (co-hosts) have hosted at least one edition.

2023 saw the tournament expand from 24 to 32 teams, proving to be one of the most competitive FIFA Women’s World Cups, highlighted by seven nations achieving their first victory, three African teams qualifying for the knockout stage, breaking records, and teams from all six confederations registering a win for the first time.

With so many Member Associations around the world inspired by the 2023 tournament, FIFA anticipates the largest number of participants in the qualifiers for 2027, as more newcomers, emerging nations in women’s football, players, and coaches are sure to leave their mark on the tournament.

Brazil promises to host the best competition ever held.

“We knew we would be celebrating a victory for South American women’s football and women’s football worldwide,” said Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the Brazilian Football Confederation. “You can be sure; we will hold the best Women’s World Cup.”
