Another group of Brazilians repatriated from the Gaza Strip arrived in Brazil on Monday (11). Composed of 48 people, the group includes 11 with dual citizenship (Brazil-Palestine) and 37 Palestinians, relatives of Brazilian citizens. Among them, there are 27 children and adolescents, 17 women (including two elderly) and four adult men. A 22-year-old woman, who was already in Egypt, joined the group. She is the daughter of one of the members of the returnees from Gaza.
The permission to cross the Rafah border from Gaza to Egypt was granted on Saturday (9). From there, they traveled to Cairo by bus, where Brazilian diplomats met them before the return trip to Brazil.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that, of the 102 names on the list from Brazil sent to the Israeli authorities, 24 were not granted permission to cross the border, including seven Palestinian Brazilians, mostly men. The Brazilian government could not explain the reasons for the denial. According to the Palácio do Planalto, there are no plans for a new repatriation flight at the moment.
“Upon arriving in Brasília, the returnees will spend the first two to three days receiving psychological support, immunization, family reunification, and resolving documentation issues. Some will go to the homes of relatives and friends, while others will be accommodated in the Social Assistance System, receiving comprehensive support for shelter and food,” explained André Quintão, National Secretary of Social Assistance.
