Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo occupy the 15th and 18th places, respectively, among the cheapest destinations in the world, according to the ranking of the 19 cheapest destinations released by the website Business Insider.
Of the total foreign tourists visiting Brazil, 50% arrive through Rio and São Paulo. Rio alone received 1.5 million visitors in 2015 and expects to receive around 300,000 to 500,000 tourists just during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. São Paulo, which welcomed 2 million tourists in 2015, will host some of the football matches during the Olympics.
The Business Insider ranking takes into account the price of accommodations, meals, drinks, and taxis. The average expenses in Rio reach R$420 (USD117) and in São Paulo, R$480 (USD134).
