Brazilian Women are Honored By The Embassy of the U.S. in Brazil

In commemoration of International Women’s Month (In March), the Embassy and Consulates of the United States in Brazil announced the name of the seven Brazilian women honored with the “Brazilian Women Making a Difference award 2023”. Their boldness and pioneering spirit in many areas, directly and indirectly reflect the experience, strength, and creativity of these women who have helped transform Brazil way ahead of their time.

“It is an honor to recognize these exceptional Brazilian women for their contributions, hard work, and innovations that are making a difference in their communities and throughout Brazil. As they are recognized with the 2023 Brazilian Women Making a Difference award, I hope these women will inspire and encourage other women to act,” said U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Elizabeth Frawley Bagley.

The award winners work with numerous programs, within the communities in which they live, ranging from environmental rights to civic engagement and advancement of inclusion and rights of indigenous communities, women, LGBTQIA+ and other historically marginalized groups.

Meet the honorees:

• Marciele Procópio Delduque, founder of the Mariana Women Who Inspire Network

• Aline Souza da Silva, president and director of The Federal District Recyclable Material Work Cooperatives Center

• Walelasoetxeige Paiter Bandeira Suruí (Txai Surui), founder and coordinator of the Movement of Indigenous Youth of Rondônia

• Jacqueline Moraes da Silva, Espírito Santo State Secretary for Women Policies

• Erika Hilton, Federal Deputy in the state of Sao Paulo

• Flavia Santos Twardowski Pinto, professor and director general at the Osório Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul

• Maria Jose da Silva, Alagoas State Secretary for Women and Human Rights
