Airlines Cancel Flights To Venezuela After Warning Of Possible Military Action

A number of international airlines cancelled flights to Venezuela over the weekend, the Axios website reported on Sunday (23).

Earlier, Latam, Caribbean, Iberia, Turkish Airlines, Avianca and TAP suspended their flights, according to the Venezuelan Airlines Association (ALAV).

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned major airlines on Friday (21) about a “potentially dangerous situation” when flying over Venezuela and urged caution.

The FAA warning cited the “worsening security situation and increased military activity in or around Venezuela” and said the threats could pose risks to aircraft at all altitudes.

The announcement comes amid a US military offensive in the region, including the Navy’s largest aircraft carrier, at least eight other warships, and F-35 fighter jets.

Washington continues to deploy forces to the Caribbean, but is not revealing its true plans. Venezuela is the primary target, accused without evidence of leading a drug cartel.
